The province’s police watchdog will investigate the arrest of a Bella Bella man and his 12-year-old granddaughter by Vancouver Police.
Maxwell Johnson went to a Vancouver BMO branch December 20th to open an account for his granddaughter, but the pair were handcuffed after bank staff called police to report a possible fraud.
The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) has ordered an investigation after it became aware of the incident and requested information from the VPD.
The probe will include any potential misconduct or attempted misconduct which may have occurred and will also consider any policies, procedures, or training that may have been a factor in the incident.
The Commissioner has ordered the Delta Police Department to conduct an independent investigation into the detention of Maxwell and his granddaughter.
