Following months of public consultation and research Prince Rupert now has a new Child Care Assessment and Action Plan. The intent of the plan is to help inform the Province and local stakeholders about the specific child care needs of the community, as well as steps that the City and others can take to support development of new child care spaces.
The plan was made possible through $25,000 in grant funding that was provided by the Union of B.C. Municipalities. Some of the highlights of the plan included the need for 49 licensed child care spaces to meet current demand. The plan noted gaps in child care provision in Prince Rupert.
The City is considering the plan as they move ahead with renewal of the Official Community Plan and associated policies through the remainder of 2020. The City plans to seek to facilitate a session with parties interested in developing child care spaces in the community. You can find the full plan on the City of Prince Rupert Website.
