Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach is pushing for a parliamentary study on rail safety.
The House of Commons committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities has agreed to hold hearings on rail safety.
In a statement Bachrach says, “I’ve heard from residents and community leaders who are concerned about our preparedness in the Northwest. The railroad is an important economic drive for our region, but people want to know everything possible is being done to ensure safety.”
The committee will commence hearings in the coming weeks and Bachrach has expressed his optimism that the work will force the government to improve safety standards.
