On Aug 23rd, A Housing advocate from the city of Prince Rupert will be attending a public hearing in order to try and get Prince Rupert’s citizens to offer their support to a proposed housing project that, if approved and built, will be located on 11th Ave. East.
The number of people expected to attend the hearing is supposedly going to be larger than the number of people that can fit in the Prince Rupert city council chambers so the hearing instead, will be held at the Lester Centre of the Arts and it will start at 6pm.
Paul Lagace, who is both the coordinator and the poverty law advocate at the Prince Rupert Unemployment Action Centre, stated that a very good turnout at the hearing is expected and that there were over 600 signatures on a recent petition made to give support the project’s approval.
Lagace also noted that this particular project is a very important one, since Prince Rupert at the moment has a zero percent vacancy rate which does not bode well for those trying to find housing.
According to Lagace, the project will provide a combination of one, two, and three-bedroom units, not to mention the four accessible units, along with the short-term units needed for medical stays.
