An assistant professor in the Northern Medical Program at the University of BC by the name of Dr. Kendra Furber, has just been named a 2021 scholar for the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
The main reasoning that Furber was named as a scholar was due to her research on the human brain that mainly focuses on the Central Nervous system.
Furber is now one out of 32 health researchers in BC that will be getting this honor. The Michael Smith Foundation is funded by the province of BC and the main purpose of its scholar program is to give support to researchers who are still in the early part of their career as they work on developing their health research programs along with building their research teams.
Being named a Scholar means the foundation will award Furber with $90,000 a year over a span of five years, in order to give training opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students at UNBC, along with UBC medical undergraduate students, who will be working under Furber’s supervision in every aspect of her research.
