A pair of Northeast MLAs are calling on the province to take significant steps to improve healthcare staffing in the region.
Liberal MLAs Dan Davies and Mike Bernier, both from the Peace Region, brought the issues forward at the UBCM annual meeting today.
Bernie says the region has been dealing with a staff shortage for years, and Covid-19 has only worsened their staffing woes.
Davies says they spoke directly with Health Minister Adrian Dix in June regarding an audit of the Fort St John Hospital, to no avail.
The ICU department at the Fort St John Hospital has been closed since last June, due to low staffing.
This summer, the government announced a virtual doctor program out of Dawson Creek intended to cover vacant nightshift duties.
