New students to Coast Mountain College’s Terrace campus will be met by newly renovated, culturally-inspired, housing.
Today, the College unveiled their new 108 bed student housing building, replacing a 40 year-old facility and creating space for 33 new students.
In addition to visitor suites, an Elder Suite, e-sports room, and more, the new building features a common area adorned with Indigenous fine art created by alumni and instructors.
The school also revealed their renovated library, which was damaged by flooding in 2018.
The new library includes an Indigenous Reading Circle, and new administrative spaces.
Both buildings’ new designs were created with advice from the College’s First Nations Council to ensure a culturally safe environment.
The student housing building has been named Wii Gyemsiga Siwilaawksat, meaning “where learners are content or comfortable.”
Similarly, the new Library will take on a traditional name, Waap Sa’mn, replacing the former Spruce Building Library moniker.
