Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb has removed himself from all external Boards amidst continued backlash over social media comments made regarding Residential Schools.
A number of First Nations Chiefs and groups in the area called for the Mayor’s resignation after he shared a post saying to look at “the other side” of the Residential School tragedy.
While he will maintain his position as Mayor, Cobb is giving up his Board positions on the Cariboo Regional District, the District’s Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Improvement Association, and the Cariboo Chilcotin and Lillooet Regional Advisory Committee.
Cobb says the decision to recuse himself from the Boards came following additional discussions with Council members.
On Wednesday, the CRD voted in favour of asking the City to rescind his appointment to their Board.
