With the cold weather officially upon us, the province is adding more than 2,000 temporary cold-weather shelter beds.
More than 40 communities are benefiting from 360 new extreme weather response shelters, and nearly 2,000 new temporary beds.
That adds to the province’s existing supply of around 2,000 beds.
With temperatures in the Northeast hitting as low as ten below this weekend, the province is beginning the process of opening both the new and existing beds.
Last year saw a number of British Columbians experiencing homelessness pass away due to the frigid temperatures in combination with the pandemic.
