Two consecutive record setting months have BC on pace to eclipse last year’s already steep overdose death total.
Through September, the province has already registered 1,534 deaths resulting from toxic drug overdoses.
As a whole, the province reported 1,734 deaths through all of last year, also a provincial record.
According to the BC Coroners’ Service, September saw 152 illicit overdose deaths, while August saw 181.
An estimated 84 percent of overdose deaths this year are attributed to fentanyl, while carfentanil was involved in 137 deaths so far this year.
