Work on the new Haisla Bridge in Kitimat is ahead of schedule, according to an update provided to the District yesterday, if only slightly.
Much of the piling work and design planning on the project has been completed, or is well under way.
Ledcor Haisla, the project’s operator, expects to complete foundations construction and west approach access construction by the end of the year.
Road widening, rock blasting, and winter maintenance will also fill their schedules through to next year.
The majority of construction is expected to be completed next year, with a target opening date for the new bridge set at April of 2023.
After the new bridge opens, crews will get to work tearing down the old bridge, something they expect to wrap up by the end of 2023.
According to the update, the project is 29 percent complete.
