Haisla members in Kitimat have organized a walkout in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en as RCMP continue to enforce an injunction on their territory.
RCMP began militarized enforcement of the injunction yesterday to allow Coastal GasLink workers to continue construction on their pipeline.
That pipeline will feed the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, of which the Haisla Nation own a 50 percent stockshare.
While they say they are not against LNG, they are against the RCMP’s military-style handling of the enforcement.
Members and supporters are set to meet at the Friendship Totem Pole in Kitimat at 2:00 this afternoon.
They are demanding that CGL, as well as Canada, and BC, return to the table to negotiate a peaceful and meaningful solution to the issue.
I can’t understand the need to have militarized enforcement. No need for such a presence like this. Curious how truth and reconciliation plays out in being military-like.
