Northwestern BC will soon play home to a new gold mine in a familiar location, thanks to a newly issued Mines Act Permit.
Issued to Ascot Resources Limited, the permit covers an area just south of Stewart, which has played home to mines in the past, in what is known as BC’s Golden Triangle.
Ascot will begin underground development at their Premier Gold Project site in the coming months, with construction expected to take one year.
Roughly 140 new jobs are expected to be created during construction, with an influx of approximately 280 jobs during operation.
Ascot expects Premier Gold to be one of BC’s least carbon-intensive gold mines, connected to BC Hydro’s hydroelectric grid.
The Nisga’a Lisims Government has worked extensively alongside Ascot during the permitting process.
