Canada’s Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations says he is open an independent review of a Residential School compensation deal.
That deal was made between Ottawa and the Catholic Church in 2005, and has been the topic of much scrutiny.
In total, 79 million dollars in compensation was agreed to, which was not reached and prompted legal action by Ottawa.
But, the case was dropped in 2015 after the Liberals won the Federal election.
After taking over the spot this year, Minister Marc Miller said the decision to drop it was made before the Liberals took office.
Miller says the decision was made by out-going Conservative Minister Bernard Valcourt, but Valcourt has denied knowing anything about it.
Miller says the document proving his point are confidential and cannot be released.
He says he is working to have other documents related to the Residential School system held by government released.
