No one can deny that, while we’ve all felt the impacts of the Covid pandemic, none have been hit harder than health care workers.
Between January 3rd and the 9th, 21,517 health care workers in BC took at least one day off due to illness, including Covid and others.
From the 10th to the 12th, another 11,010 workers missed shifts, out of a total of 188,000 active health care workers in the province.
According to Health Minister Adrian Dix, those numbers are nearly double what they are historically in the same time period.
Dix also presented how those numbers compared with previous years, excluding Interior Health and Vancouver Island Health.
With those two Health Authorities left off, BC saw 14,591 health care workers take sick days between January 3rd and the 9th.
In 2021, there were 7,573 workers who missed time due to illness in that same period, and in 2020 there were 8,802.
