A recent study conducted by the Simon Fraser University discovered very important information regarding how Chinook Salmon is connected to BC river flows.
The study in question found out that the Chinook Salmon population for both better and worse is determined by how the water in the Nicola Watershed flows during the summer.
These results could very well end up determining how water management is conducted in the future given how hot it can get in BC during the summer.
According to the university’s data, Nicola river flows have decreased in August by 26 percent on average over the past century.
The modelling that was used to conduct this research also predicted that when the river flows get low in August, it makes it very difficult for newborn fish to make it all the way to adulthood.
