Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Chief Roseanne Casimir has been selected as the next Chairperson of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council, at least until Spring.
Casimir was elected by the Council’s nine Chiefs yesterday, and will replace Splatsin Chief Wayne Christian in the role.
Chief Christian served 12 years as Chairperson, and has spent over 40 years fighting for Indigenous rights, and establishing healing and health programs.
Christian had also served 7 consecutive terms as Chief of Splatsin, before losing to Doug Thomas in an election from last week.
Chief Casimir is currently serving her second term as Chief of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.
She will fill the role until a new Tribal Chairperson is elected by the Council this Spring.
