A motion put forward in Kitimat Council looks to reduce barriers for younger residents eyeing a run at Council.
District of Kitimat Councillor Lani Gibson put forward the motion, which would allow councillors to take parental leaves of absence.
It is the hope of the motion that doing so will allow for some further diversification of council, and convince those who may have been on the fence about running.
Currently Councillors would need to receive Council permission to take off more than 60 days due to anything but injury or illness.
That motion was approved, and directed to City staff, who will look in to how to implement the system and refer back to Council.
