Earlier today, BC transit made an announcement about some details regarding their soon to be implemented Electronic Fare Collection System.
The purpose of this new system is to allow for people to pay for their bus trips via contact-less tap payment so people can avoid having to be on the constant hunt for bus fare change.
Some of the tap methods that can be used for paying include credit card, debit card, mobile app and even a re-loadable smart card.
Other improvements that are expected to happen thanks to this program will see buses get cleaner thanks to a reduction of touching on fare boxes, inter-regional travel becoming easier with riders needing only one method of payment as well as service reliability being less of an issue without the need to visually validate bus fare.
Some notable areas scheduled to get this program implemented include Terrace, Kitimat, Dawson Creek, Prince Rupert, Prince George and Quesnel.
