A bid put forward by 4 BC First Nations to host the 2030 Winter Olympics is coming closer to reality.
Yesterday, both the Canadian Olympic Committee, and the Paralympic Committee agreed to endorse the bid.
That bid was put forward by the Squamish, Lilwat, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, and has already received support from the mayors of Vancouver and Whistler.
But the bid still needs to gain acceptance from the International Olympic Committee, something which may be tough to get.
Generally, the Committee only accepts bids from Internationally recognized Nation-States, and if accepted, the bid would be the first ever by an Indigenous group.
However, the path is still open, should the groups gain the support of the Canadian government, or another form of diplomatic recognition accepted by the IOC.
