Five northern airports are among 11 in BC splitting nearly 19 million dollars in federal funding.
Through the Regional Air Transportation Initiative, the funding is intended to help the industry recover from pandemic impacts.
It looks to ensure the continuation of essential operations and maintenance during the pandemic, and drive growth and employment as the industry bounces back.
In Dease Lake, the Stikine Airport Society gets an estimated 328,000 dollars, just over 505,000 in funding is going to the Smithers Regional Airport, the Williams Lake Regional Airport gets 130,000, the Quesnel Regional Airport gets 326,000 in funds, and 328,000 goes to the Northern Rockies Regional Airport in Fort Nelson.
In addition, Smithers-based carrier Central Mountain Air, is receiving 5 million dollars in funding, as one of two carriers funded.
