A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in Bouchie Lake yesterday to usher in the opening of the renovated ice rink.
Last year, the Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission determined the outdoor rink, which is more than two decades old, was in need of renovations.
Now, thanks to 65,000 dollars in grants from the Northern Development Initiative Trust and North Cariboo Sub-Regional Recreation Capital Plan, most of the work is now complete.
New areas were constructed, and some existing areas rebuilt, along with weatherproofing work to improve access and year-round safety.
Some concrete work still needs to be finished in the warmer months, but the renewed rink’s ribbon was cut during a ceremony yesterday.
Members of the Bouchie Lake Volunteer Fire Department, who helped create the rink decades earlier, joined members of the Recreation Commission for the ceremony.
