More than 200 BC residents lost their lives to illicit drug overdoses in January, according to a new report from the BC Coroners Service.
Preliminary data released today shows 207 overdose deaths in January, the third highest monthly total ever recorded in BC.
While illicit drug overdose deaths remain high across the province, Northern Health saw the highest rate any Authority with 75 deaths per 100,000 people.
Between November and January, 23 percent of post-mortem toxicology in BC results showed high concentrations of fentanyl, in the North that percentage jumps to 29.
It is the fourth consecutive month in which more than 200 lives were lost to the illicit toxic drug supply in BC.
