Recently completed upgrades to the Prince Rupert Curling Centre will improve safety, accessibility, and cost-efficiency at the facility.
Newly introduced provincial requirements had made the Centre’s rink refrigeration system too expensive to operate.
Now, a new freon-based plant has replaced the old ammonia plant, improving safety while also bringing costs down.
A number of upgrades were also made to the Prince Rupert Curling Club’s Bob Rudderham Hall in an effort to improve access.
Those upgrades saw a lift installed at the Hall, and enhancements to make the kitchen and washrooms wheelchair accessible.
In addition, the Club has purchased new equipment for its junior curling program, including lightweight rocks.
Funding for the upgrades comes from the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Community Investment Fund, thanks to a partnership between the two parties.
