A deadline issued by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs for the Royal Bank of Canada to pull funding from the Coastal GasLink pipeline has come and gone.
In late February, the Chiefs met with RBC leadership and issued three demands: the immediate withdrawal of funds, a promise to cease future funding, and a meeting.
They gave RBC a deadline date of March 11th, or last Friday, to meet their demands, to which RBC never issued public comment.
Today, the Hereditary Chief-aligned Gidimt’en Checkpoint group is hosting an online video conference to re-assert their demands.
That conference kicked off at 10:00 this morning, and will see actor Mark Ruffalo give an address, on top of Hereditary leadership and Checkpoint spokesperson Sleydo’ (Molly Wickham).
According to the group, they have more than 65 other celebrities in support of their movement.
CGL has signed agreements with 20 elected First Nations, and equity agreements with 16, along the pipeline route, but not with the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
