Continued and improved shuttle bus service is on the way for 18 remote and Indigenous communities in northern BC, thanks to fresh provincial funding.
Organizations participating in the freshly named Northern Community Shuttle Program will split $2.8 million in new funds.
Of the 18 organizations, 7 are being funded for the first time, while 11 have previously received funding under older programs.
Funded through the Northern Development Initiative Trust, the new program will introduce on-demand and scheduled services to a number of new communities, as well as adding additional stops.
Some of the organizations receiving funding include: the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society, Nisga’a Village of Gingolx, Friendship House Association of Prince Rupert, Kermode Friendship Society, Takla Nation, and the Gitanmaax Band.
