Kitimat Councillors have given three readings to the District’s 2022 tax rates bylaw.
In a separate vote early last month, council opted to keep the District’s residential flat tax, which comes in at $695 on the year.
That is an increase of 3.75 percent over last year, and makes up just a portion of the total municipal taxes collected.
It does, however, allow them to set the rate for the remainder of municipal taxes at just $2.65 per $1,000 of assessed home value, to the benefit of lower-priced properties.
With school rates and other fees included, residential property owners will pay a grand total of $695 plus roughly $4.40 per $1,000 of property assessment value in 2022.
That bylaw must still receive final adoption and be submitted to the province before tax rates can be finalized.
