According to Interior Health, the planning phase of the Cariboo Memorial Hospital redevelopment project is close to wrapping up.
Williams Lake City Councillors received an update on the $217 million project during a meeting this week.
With the planning phase now 90 percent complete, the hospital’s new look is beginning to take shape.
Once required parking lot expansion is completed to accommodate the larger facility, work on the hospital will be conducted in two phases.
Phase one will see a three-storey addition to the hospital campus which will contain the maternity ward, emergency department, medical surgery units, and a pharmacy.
Phase two will then see renovations to the hospital facility itself, adding 16 new in-patient beds, and a 6-bed psychiatric care unit.
While the costs of the project were estimated at $217 million in April of last year, with construction costs in the province on the rise, that could be going up.
