Construction on a new LNG facility proposed for the Northwest is slated to begin this summer.
A small-scale operation, compared to others in the region, Port Edward LNG will be located on Mount Stewart, east of Watson Island.
That contract would see the micro-LNG facility connected with their pipeline, to supply 150,000 metric tonnes of LNG for cooling.
Now, the company says they plan to break ground this summer, with payments to PNG beginning in December, regardless of progress.
Extensive work, expected to take around a year, is required to ready the mountain slope for the 22-acre facility.
In total, construction work is expected to take approximately 2 years, bringing numerous jobs to the community.
While comprehensive environmental and community impact research has been performed, in order to be fully permitted, the company must satisfy First Nations engagement requirements.
