New amendments to a pair of bylaws in the District of Kitimat will help to shape the way this year’s municipal elections take form.
One such amendment will bring the District’s Election Bylaw in line with new provincial legislation, allowing all eligible voters to cast their vote via mail.
Voters who wish to apply for a mail-in ballot will be able to do so between August 30th, and 4:00 in the afternoon on October 13th.
A second amendment to that bylaw establishes a number of special voting opportunities to be held in advance of the October 15th General Election.
While no formal dates or locations have been announced, the District hopes to host those opportunities out of the Hospital and Health Centre, Mountainview Lodge, and Delta King Place.
A final amendment to that bylaw would establish the need to hold a run-off election in the event of a tie, no later than December 17th.
In addition, amendments to the Signs Bylaw reduce the maximum allowable size of elections signs to 3 square metres, and 2.5 metres tall, and sets the minimum distance between signs at 1.5 metres.
