Today is National Indigenous Peoples day and that has provided an opportunity for celebration as well as an opportunity for organizations and politicians to give their thoughts on the day.
National Indigenous Peoples day is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
BC Premier John Horgan and Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Murray Rankin, issued a statement reflecting on how it had been a couple of years since people could get together for the day and talked about the happy future they hope to create for Indigenous peoples.
Davie Shipbuilding celebrated the day by renewing their commitment to implementing meaningful reconciliation throughout Canada.
And the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples sent out their own statement encouraging everyone to celebrate but with the reminder that Canada’s First Nations need to focus on the path forward ensuring all Canadians take part in reconciliation and aspire for a brighter future.
