Two communities along the Northcoast are looking to bury the hatchet, after being at odds since the 80s.
As part of his ‘State of the City’ address last night, Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain announced a new agreement with Port Edward.
Disputes between the two communities date back to a Ridley Island Tax Sharing Agreement made between the two communities in 1981.
That agreement saw Prince Rupert contractually obligated to send 20 percent of industry revenues from the island to Port Edward.
But, their new four-part agreement aims to solve that problem with a new tax sharing agreement.
In addition, the agreement will see the pair work together on emergency response agreements, and development of the region moving forward.
Brain, who is not running for re-election, invited Port Edward Mayor Knut Bjorndal on stage to make the announcement alongside him.
