A monthly Superintendents report shows the results of a questionnaire given to middle school students about their well being within the educational community.
Using the Middle Year Development Instrument, students in School District 82 were given a self report questionnaire about their overall well being.
Children in grades 5, 6, and 8 were asked about their happiness, self esteem, relationships, and nutrition.
Results found that students in the eighth grade had a much lower overall well being, while fifth graders showed the highest percentages in every category.
Eighth graders reported the lowest nutrition and sleep, as well as a lower number of adult relationships and after school activities.
However, only 74 percent of sixth graders reported good peer relationships, while the other grades reported 77 percent.
With this information, the school district will focus on the areas students struggle with to improve children’s overall well being.
This report marks Janet Meyer’s last as she ends her three year run as Superintendent.
