British Columbians can look forward to another day of sweltering hot temperatures, according to Environment Canada.
Extreme heat warnings currently cover nearly the entire province, with only Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii, and sections north of Iskut avoiding warnings for now.
With daytime temperatures expected to hover around the mid-30s, the risk of heat-related illnesses is elevated, especially for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
Residents are advised to get plenty of water, avoid alcohol and strenuous activities, and to prepare a heat plan.
That plan should include identifying places to cool down, both in your home and in the community.
In Kitimat, the District is putting on pop-up sprinkler events in the Riverlodge and Nechako Centre parking lots between 3:00 and 5:00 this afternoon.
In Smithers, the Salvation Army is operating a cooling centre between 10:00 and 4:00 Wednesday to Friday, and 9:30 to 2:30 on Saturdays.
In Terrace, residents can cool down at the library, or Kermode Friendship Centre, and those aged 12 to 24 can do so at the Foundry building.
Volunteer Terrace will also be reaching out to seniors and connecting them with cooling options when needed.
Contact Volunteer Terrace at 250 638 1330 if you are aware of a senior who could benefit from the checks.
