Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen is in New Brunswick today for meetings with ministers from other provinces over the 2023-25 Immigration Levels Plan.
Prior to the meetings, Cullen sent a letter to federal Immigration Minister Sean Fraser requesting an increase to the number of nominations allowed through the Provincial Nominee Program.
That program allows the province to nominate prospective immigrants who best support BC’s labour market and needs.
Cullen, who is also BC’s Minister responsible for immigration, says that an increase in nominations would allow BC to fill roles in critical industries, such as health care.
For 2022, the BC PHP is capped at 7,000 nominations, but Cullen is requesting an increase to 8,000 for 2023, 9,000 by 2024, and 10,000 in 2025.
He is also requesting that provincial nominee admissions be increased across the board, to represent half of total admissions across Canada.
