Conservation and Protection officers from Terrace helped local law enforcement to hand out 30 fisheries violations over the long weekend.
Alongside RCMP and the Conservation Service, officers assisted with highway checkstops, and patrolled rivers and waters near Terrace, Kitimat, Smithers, and Gitlaxt’aamiks.
Officers targeted a number of key issues in their compliance enforcement, which included: monitoring for misidentified Chinook or Chinook caught during closure times, patrolling of closed areas, checking licenses and gear, and checking for retained salmon or other fish.
Of the 30 violations handed out, 19 were for over possession of salmon or halibut, 3 were for breaking the daily Chinook limit, and another 3 were for processing uncountable or unidentifiable fish.
The remainder were related to license compliance issues.
In addition to the violations, the DFO has opened an investigation in to the possible illegal sale and transport of 70 pounds of Dungeness crabs.
