A wildfire burning southwest of Chetwynd has become the Wildfire Service’s first fire of note in the North this season.
That fire is covering 104 hectares along Hasler Creek, west of the Hasler Flats, and is believed to be lightning caused.
Meanwhile, a 50 hectare blaze near Rosswood which has been burning over the past week is now listed as under control.
Three new fires sprouted up around Mount Edziza Provincial Park over the past couple of days, though little is known about them at the moment.
One of those is burning at the confluence of the Stikine and Deeker Creek, and is listed as out of control.
The other two are both still listed as new, with no known cause and are located along Bodel Creek and southwest of Bob Quinn Lake.
While lowering temperatures over the weekend should aid fire crews, the lightning predicted across the North and Interior may lead to more fires.
