Lightning and heat is to blame for a number of new fires which have kept wildfire crews busy in the Northwest Fire Centre as of late.
Of the 18 fires currently burning in the Centre, 6 are listed as out of control and three are listed as new, with unknown causes.
Two small lightning caused fires are burning south of Tesla Lake, near Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, while three more are burning north of there near Watuk Lake, St Thomas Bay, Nigunsaw River and the Nechako Reservoir near Tahtsa Lake.
Along with a fire south of Bob Quinn Lake, only one of the out of control blazes is covering more than 3 hectares.
Meanwhile, a new fire is covering less than a hectare along Highway 16, where the Kasiks and Skeena Rivers meet.
Another new, but small blaze, is burning northwest of Kispiox, halfway between the River and Highway 37.
One newer fire, the largest of the fires at 5 hectares, is also burning at the confluence of the Morice River and Gosnell Creek and after an evacuation alert was issued for the area yesterday, it was downgraded to an alert and the fire is listed as held.
