A recent announcement has revealed that work is underway in both Northern BC and the Cariboo region in order to protect both areas from the effects of wildfires and climate change.
Via a Provincial investment of $25 million, the Forest Enhancement Society of BC is funding 22 different community projects to lessen wildfire risks, 4 of which are in the Cariboo and one is in the Skeena region.
A couple of notable projects will see $529,000 in funding go to the City of Quesnel in order to clean up specific sites that have been identified as needing to have its wildfire risk reduced as well as the Chinook Community Forest getting $3,000,000 to reduce fuel loading in areas that mountain pine beetles have had a serious impact on.
Work has already been started on these projects and all of them are expected to be done by March of 2024.
