In a recent news release from WorksafeBC, the company is warning of dangers in a type of workplace that doesn’t seem particularly dangerous at 1st glance.
But according to WorkSafeBC, restaurants, pubs and bars have seen their share of workplace injuries over the past half-decade.
Over 25 percent of those injuries in the past 5 years have been some variation of a trip, slip or a fall and those injuries have cost the industry over $20 million in workers’ compensation claim costs.
In order to avoid accidents like these happening, WorksafeBC says that dealing with these hazards involves three steps.
Step one is to find the hazards, step 2 is to assess all the risks and step 3 is to implement effective controls.
It was also noted that owners, managers and supervisors need to lead the charge in finding and fixing slip and trip hazards, and that workers need to be engaged as well.
