An update on the city’s Clean Team and Day Labour Program was recently sent out by the City of Quesnel.
This program’s intention is to provide work to those that have previously been homeless or had issues with mental health and/or substance abuse.
The main portion of their job includes picking up litter, needles, and other items every day of the week throughout Quesnel, mostly in highly populated areas.
And according to the program’s partnerships, not only has a lot of garbage throughout the city been cleaned up, but the isolation and stigma surrounding mental illness and substance abuse has been improved as well.
The program’s workers have also been able to create new social and emotional connections due to their peers having great appreciation for the work they do.
The main source of funding for the program is the UBCM Strengthening Communities’ Services.
