A total of 206 resolutions will be considered this week as the Union of BC Municipalities’ usually annual Convention gets underway.
This year’s convention will be the first since 2019, and will bring together local government officials to discuss a wide range of issues.
There are three special resolutions on this year’s agenda which will be considered individually.
If endorsed, the first will call for the province to ensure the availability of 24-hour hospital and ambulance services, and increase training funding to address health care availability.
A second calls for the allocation of funding for security and clean-up at overdose prevention and safe injection sites, and to share the $150 million Purdue Pharma settlement with local governments.
And the third calls for the province to increase funding and assume greater responsibility for flood preparedness and mitigation.
Most of the over 200 other recommendations will be considered as blocks, based on whether an endorsement is recommended or not.
A much publicized Terrace resolution to have the province consider public safety and fairness in dealing with prolific offenders will be considered in the “no recommendation” block.
