BC communities are expected to get the choice of optimal and sustainable travel options with this year’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program opening.
In addition to this program allowing for the chance for communities to build active transportation improvements into new provincial infrastructure, the Province will also be investing $60 million in community-led active transportation infrastructure projects over the next three years.
Via this program, the Province teams up other local, Indigenous and regional governments to provide up to $500,000 to communities to enhance their travel infrastructure.
Some of the projects to improve said infrastructure include creating protected bike lanes, enhancing sidewalk safety and end-of-trip connections to public transit, employment, schools and other services.
The period for communities to apply for such funding started last week on the 6th and will go until October 21st.
