Six projects in the North are among 36 across BC benefiting from $1.9 million in extreme heat preparation funding.
Each of the projects seek to stem the impacts of climate change on local and First Nations communities through extreme heat projects and strategies.
Chetwynd and the West Moberly First Nation will share $60,000 to prepare and implement an Extreme Heat Plan.
Just under $90,000 will go towards the Cariboo urban centre extreme heat planning project in Williams Lake, Quesnel, and 100 Mile.
Smithers and Telkwa will share $57,000 for their heat emergency resiliency project.
And the Tahltan, Xeni Gwet’in, and Nazko First Nations will each get $30,000 for a heat response plan, climate adaptation project, and heat risk mapping project.
