In a recent announcement by the Province of BC, it was revealed that the 11 members of the recently formed Anti-Racism Data Committee, have been picked.
This Committee is a big part of BC’s recently enacted Anti-Racism Data Act, which is focused on dismantling systemic racism in all provincial government programs and services.
The main job of Committee members is to provide input on how demographic data will be collected and used in order to point out gaps in government services and dismantle systemic barriers to government programs.
The people that were selected for the job are Simon Fraser University professor and chairperson June Francis, Shirley Chau, another professor, Jacqueline Quinless, CEO of the Quintessential Research Group, Ellen Kim, who has worked a lot in community development, Donald Corrigal, the cultural wellness manager for Métis Nation BC, Marion Erickson, a research manager at the Health Arts Research Centre, Daljit Gill-Badesha, an instructor at the BC Institute of Technology, Jessica Guss, the manager of cultural safety and humility at the First Nations Health Authority, Zareen Naqvi, the director of Institutional Research and Planning at Simon Fraser University, Smith Oduro-Marfo, the lead author and researcher of the Black in B.C. report and Sukhi Sandhu, a co-founder of Wake Up Surrey.
