In a recent announcement, the Province of BC is letting residents know of their commitment to multiple programs that make sports activities more affordable for families and empower under-represented youth to jump back into sport and physical activities.
This announcement comes right as BC marks Sport week in the Province for this week.
One of said programs is KidSport BC, which exists to provide direct financial support to families with low incomes and through it, families can eligible for up $400 per child each calendar year to help pay for memberships with other eligible sport organizations.
While KidSport gets an annual contribution of $400,000, 2019 saw the program get a one-time $2.5-million investment to expand the program over the span of three years so 2021 saw a contribution of $1.3 million to KidSport instead and this year will see the rest of the funds used.
Other programs getting funding include the After School Sport and Art Initiative and the RISE (Resilient, Inspire, Strength, and Engage) fund.
