At the District of Kitimat Council Meeting last night, councillors had a discussion regarding a request that the GMHL’s Kitimat SAAX hockey team not be charged for access to the Greater Metro Hockey League Facility.
The main reason being so that the players would be able to do off ice training in the weight room and swimming pool among other areas of the facility.
In return, the GMHL has offered the players’ services for special visits to District special events or player hosted public skates in an effort to assist or increase public interest in skating or even volunteer support assistance to programming opportunities.
The District has offered discounts to organizations and people before for access to the facility, however, council still appeared to want to charge the players.
But nothing was officially agreed upon since Councillor Gibson wants to discuss this subject more in order to potentially give the players a discount as she does not want to completely shut them out of the facility.
