Back on Monday, an All Candidates Forum in Prince Rupert was held for all of the city’s mayoral and councillor candidates.
The council candidates started off with the forum with Nick Adey re-affirming his belief in the city’s plan to deal with their issues and is happy with what’s been done to help solve them so far while Andy Chugh spoke about bringing a fresh perspective to council and wants to deal with issues like affordability and economic development.
Barry Cunningham spoke on his belief on being strong on healthcare and housing while taking all matters coming before council very seriously.
Teri Forster spoke about her job as a nurse in the city and how she strongly values transparency and accountability.
Shelia Gordon-Payne talked about addressing what she believes to be five key issues in Rupert, community plans, the budget, healthcare, child friendliness and sustainable culture and recreation.
Wade Niesh highlighted his work ethic and his desire to make it so that Prince Rupert can continue to host and support their own future growth.
Next was Gurvinder Randhawa and he spoke on wanting to continue mutually beneficial relations with nearby First Nations as well as wanting to support the community that welcomed him 29 years ago.
Reid Skelton-Morven was the last councillor candidate and he highlighted the importance of showing up to local events as well as the importance of opportunity.
A question and answer session was then held for all the candidates regrading issues like housing, how to strengthen community plans to lessen red tape and incentivize more housing supply, plans for Indigenous reconciliation, how to improve healthcare access, why they think they can best get rid of the port tax cap, how to ensure transparency from the government and more.
