Two women had to be medi-vacced to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a bear near Dawson Creek yesterday.
RCMP first received reports of the attack on the Bear Mountain Cross Country Ski Club trails at around 7:00 in the evening.
Officers were immediately dispatched to the area, splitting into teams to search for the two unaccounted for women.
After about an hour of searching, two officers on UTVs were able to locate the victims, lying critically wounded in the brush, with a large black bear still lingering nearby.
Unable to scare the black bear off, or force it to leave the area, officers had no choice but to shoot and kill the bear, to save the victims.
Both women survived and were transported to paramedics and medi-vacced out, though they remain seriously injured.
A teenage boy was also reportedly injured while trying to rescue the woman, though he was accounted for when police arrived.
