Housing sales have dropped significantly in the North over the first 9 months of this year, when compared to the same time period last year.
According to the BC Northern Real Estate Board, 4,141 properties were sold in the north through September, compared to 5,306 in 2021.
Despite those sales pulling in $1.7 billion, compared to $1.9 billion last year, real estate costs in the Northwest regions remained relatively steady.
Terrace saw the largest drop off in total sales, partially due to the region being split into three for the first time on this report.
Terrace saw 232 sales, down from 297 last year, for an average of $414,000, roughly the same as last year’s average.
New major areas were created for the Iskut and Atlin area, and for Hazelton, which took 4 and 30 sales, respectively, from Terrace.
Prince Rupert saw 149 sales for $65 million, and Kitimat saw 167 for $58.9 million.
